Blended learning

To facilitate the learning process and make it as comfortable and efficient as possible, we offer our students a blend of different educational methods and services.

The entire programme takes place online, and students only have to attend our university in Berlin for the oral Master’s examination at the end of the programme. All content and materials are provided via our learning platform.

During the first four semesters you will work through 3-4 modules per semester, with an estimated workload of 125 working hours to successfully pass one module. The curriculum is taught using a blended learning approach based on self-study materials for independent and flexible study, combining the following components:


Online

Learning materials for self-study

Each module provides written learning material that has been exclusively developed for the MBA Renewables programme. The learning units are available in an e-learning version and as a pdf download. The learning material is accompanied by examples, educational videos and case studies, which are used to demonstrate the learned knowledge in practice.

Self-study quizzes for monitoring the learning process

Each module consists of several learning units, and each unit is accompanied by a self-study quiz on the content. This gives students the ability to constantly monitor their individual learning process.

Live lectures

The live online lectures highlight and explain in greater detail selected issues within the various subject areas. Each lecture is a real-time gathering of professors and lecturers with students via a web conference system – so students from all over the world meet to discuss crucial issues on the subject matter. Students who do not have the chance to participate live can download and watch a video of the lecture at any time at their convenience.

Examinations

Each module involves a final examination that covers not just the theory, but the practice too. Most students are occupied with a challenging profession while studying, and the examination therefore gives them the ability to directly transfer what they have learned into their professional lives, deepening and solidifying their skills. The examinations are in writing, as an online quiz or as a group presentation.

Face-to-face

On-campus time

In the second and fourth semesters we offer students an optional practical training module, ‘Advanced Practical RE and EE Implementation’, which is on-campus in Berlin. The focus is on practical issues, including exposure visits (field trips). Students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge with hands-on training in the RENAC Training Centre, theory lessons, field trips and group work. The on-campus module also allows students to meet fellow students, lecturers and the wider team at Beuth University and RENAC in person.

Oral Master’s examination

Students are required to submit a Master’s thesis in the final semester. Once it is handed in, students schedule a date for their oral Master’s examination at Beuth University in Berlin, when they present their thesis to the board of examiners. Students also have the chance to meet the team at Beuth University and RENAC in person.

Services

Technical and organisational forums

Students can get in contact with their lecturers and fellow students at any time via the forums on the learning platform. This is the place to ask questions, exchange views and discuss things beyond the online lectures. Lecturers and staff will answer questions within a short period of time.

Virtual collaboration tools

MBA Renewables thrives on the exchange of experience between its students. Therefore, virtual work groups form an integral part of the programme. Students team up to jointly prepare for examinations. Students can send messages to one or more students directly via the learning platform, where they can also collaborate on simple text files, word, spreadsheet and presentation documents or upload documents. Students can access and manage virtual conference rooms independently via the web conference system.

Course completion status

The course completion status shows the progress a student is making towards finishing a module according to specific criteria. Course completion is either done automatically after finishing an activity or can be checked manually by the student.

Mobile app

The official mobile app of our learning platform and web conference system allows students access from their mobile devices and includes a variety of features.

Central helpdesk

For all individual questions, the central help desk is the first point of contact. It is organised by the MBA Renewables team at Beuth University as a one-stop-shop for all relevant information and individual solutions.

Fees and Funding

Tuition fees and payment

The tuition fees for the entire MBA Renewables programme are €16,000 (examination and service fees are included). The fees are payable in five instalments of €3,200 each at the beginning of each semester. Accommodation and travel costs for on-campus time and the oral exam in Berlin are not covered by the tuition fee. Read more about the tuition fee regulations.

Students' background

The MBA Renewables is designed for professionals aiming to reach a management position, in particular in the renewable energy and energy efficiency industry. The programme is open to graduates of all academic degrees and is both for technical experts and non-technicians who want to enhance their career prospects by improving their business and leadership skills. As a student you will gain an understanding of the complexity of green energy markets and the crucial interrelation of economics, technology and regulatory politics in this field.

MBA Renewables students are located in more than 50 countries around the world. About half already work in the global green energy industry, while many others intend to start a career in renewable energy and energy efficiency.
